Who Are We? Neil James - Director

Neil James - Director

I have over twenty years experience in senior management, leadership and director level positions. This has been gained within in the pharmaceutical, recruitment and FMCG industries with large companies such as Kelloggs, Kraft Foods, Boots Pharmaceuticals, BASF Ltd and North 51.

I have designed and implemented many selection processes and interviewed thousands of job candidates, giving me unrivalled insight and experience into what employers are really looking for when recruiting. In short, I know what makes the difference between success and failure when being interviewed. Since 2014 I have worked with police officers across the UK to help them achieve promotion success.

Being qualified in Occupational Testing to British Psychological Society Level A&B, allows me to administer and interpret psychometric tests (both ability and personality instruments) which are often used as part of corporate assessment centres.

I understand what works well and just as importantly what does not when attempting to secure roles in a corporate environment. This, coupled with my passion for developing people, allows me to help individuals to realise their career aspirations.

Who Are We? Ben Ewart - Director

Ben Ewart - Director

I have over 19 years police service with two of the largest forces in the UK, working in a variety of operational and senior leadership roles. I have an MSc in Strategic Leadership & Change and have graduated from a number of internal and external leadership programmes.

I am passionate about helping people ‘b’ the best they can be and truly believe bselected delivers this in a highly effective and no-nonsense manner, drawing on years of assessment and selection experience from across the team.

Police officers now face fewer promotion opportunities and a highly competitive selection process. It’s a sad reality that the vast majority of promotion candidates are underprepared and in my experience rarely understand the competency based assessment process. Have no doubt that knowing what to expect, how to prepare and how to deliver - when it counts - is absolutely key to increase your chance of success, whether it be promotion or a role specific interview.

David Moffat - Police Promotion Consultant

I recently retired from Police Scotland as a Superintendent after 30 years service. I performed a variety of roles throughout my career including many operational and investigation positions, in addition to national training roles.

During the latter part of my career I was National Project lead on Police recruitment, training and selection, including the Police Scotland promotion process. I have been involved in a substantial number of promotion processes as a candidate, a panel assessor and chair, and appeals assessor. I have coached a number of officers at various ranks over the past ten years to achieve promotion success, many who had previously failed at application or interview stage.

I have a keen interest in how organisations identify and select people for promotion and am passionate about helping officers fulfil their potential and achieve promotion success.

During my service I gained a Diploma in education, a BA in teaching and an MSc from Edinburgh University in the Management of Training and Development. I have conducted significant research on competency-based assessment frameworks, including promotion selection.

Robert Miller - Non Executive Director

I am a commercially focused Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Associated Fellow of the British Psychological Society. My management experience spans the corporate, SME and public sectors; and I have spent the last 13 years focusing on improving individual and organisational performance in a consultancy role as Director of Business Psychology.

My specialist areas of practice include the design and development of competency frameworks, assessment & selection, personal/career development and management/leadership development (including the design and delivery of development centres).
